About the Pirate
The Knitting Pirate has been obsessed with yarn and string for as long as she can remember, beginning with friendship bracelets and weaving on a plastic loom. She learned to knit at eight, but didn’t really pick it up as a hobby until her late 20s. Other string-related hobbies include inkle and card weaving, embroidery, sewing, quilting and, yes, the occasional friendship bracelet. The Pirate has just started to get into the idea of dyeing and spinning, or maybe spinning and dyeing, her own yarn – Pirate-Husband bought her a wheel for her 30th birthday, and a drum carder soon followed, and then another wheel…
In her day job, the Pirate spends her time as a graphic designer, dabbling in marketing and web design.
The Pirate lives in a log house on top of a mountain. Sometimes she thinks that was the craziest move ever. Sometimes she’s exceedingly glad of it. When it snows, she gets stuck in the house. There are many worse places to be snowed in!
In August 2010, the Pirate was adopted by a pair of kittens: Floyd T. Underfoot and Aubrey M. Tinyfierce. They – or rather, their vet bills – were the inspiration to open up an Etsy shop.
